What would you do if your leg was amputated and you could never walk normally again?
Most people would lose hope. But Arunima Sinha, a former national-level volleyball player from India, turned her pain into purpose — and climbed Mount Everest with an artificial leg.
Her story is one of unimaginable courage, resilience, and determination.
π A Tragic Turn of Events
In 2011, Arunima was traveling by train to take an exam for the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force). During the journey, a few robbers tried to snatch her bag and gold chain. When she resisted, they pushed her out of a moving train.
She fell onto the railway tracks. Another train passed from the opposite direction and crushed her leg.
She lay unconscious on the tracks for hours. When help arrived, it was too late to save her leg — doctors had to amputate it below the knee.
For many, life would have stopped there. But for Arunima, this was just the beginning.
π§♀️ Turning Trauma into Triumph
While recovering in the hospital, she took a bold decision:
“I will climb Mount Everest.”
Most thought she was mad. How could someone without a leg climb the world’s highest mountain?
But Arunima had a fire in her heart. She trained under Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to scale Everest. It wasn’t easy — physically, mentally, or emotionally — but she kept pushing forward.
After two years of intense training, Arunima achieved the unthinkable.
π️ Conquering Everest – A Victory for Millions
On May 21, 2013, Arunima Sinha became the first female amputee in the world to climb Mount Everest.
She didn’t stop there. She went on to climb the highest peaks of all seven continents, becoming a global symbol of strength and willpower.
She later authored a book titled "Born Again on the Mountain" and continues to motivate millions with her speeches and foundation work.
