Our food providers, the farmers, upon whom our lives depend, often have their suffering go unseen. In the early hours of the morning, when the world is still asleep, the farmer arrives in the field. Be it scorching heat or bone-chilling cold, rain or storm, the farmer tirelessly serves Mother Earth, hoping that the earth will provide food for him and his family.
A farmer's life is no less than a rollercoaster ride. Sometimes a good harvest brings a smile to their face, but that happiness is fleeting. Unseasonal rains, excessive rainfall, drought, pest infestations – all these calamities come one after another, washing away the farmer's hard work. Not getting a fair price for their produce in the market is also a major problem, pushing the farmer under a mountain of debt.
When a farmer's crop fails, their hopes are also shattered. The dream of educating their children, the worry of providing for their family, and the burden of debt – all this gnaws at them from within. Many farmers, unable to bear this burden, resort to extreme measures like suicide, which is truly a heartbreaking event.
